Break Your Subwoofer In
A new subwoofer must go through a short but important process of 'break-in' before it is run under harsh conditions. The 'break-in' process will ensure the subwoofer is able to perform as it has been designed to. This process involves subjecting the subwoofer to no more than low-to-medium volume levels for a number of hours in the enclosure. 3-4 hours is generally sufficient for the subwoofer’s suspension to loosen enough to prevent the voice coil(s) from overheating and causing failure. The break-in period is also effective in extending subwoofer life. Over-driving the woofer before it has been properly broken-in will usually result in premature failure and poor performance.

Cone: Treated Paper
The advantage of a paper cone is that it’s more rigid and is able to handle high power and functionality. You don’t want the cone of a subwoofer to have a flexible structure to it. The stiffer the cone is, the better sound quality you will receive.
Surround: Foam
Unlike rubber, foam is an alternative for the surround in speakers and subwoofers.
Foam is in general more flexible than rubber, giving the woofer a slightly higher efficiency. This also translates to better excursion. (How far the cone of a speaker linearly travels from its resting position). It generally lasts anywhere from 8 to 15 years under the right conditions of usage.
Voice Coil: Aluminum

It is nonmagnetic (does not have any magnetic properties) and does not easily ignite. This solid material has the ability to perform under stress in both high tension and high compression environments.
